Toronto is home to countless amazing pizzerias, which makes it difficult to narrow down the best. So if you’re looking for recommendations from an unbiased local this post rounds up 5 from wood oven, to deep dish this post has got you covered. Not all pizza is the same style obviously, so depending on what you’re looking for here are 5 of the best Toronto pizza joints to try that touch on each type.

Best Deep Dish Toronto Pizza

8 Mile Pizza is a Detroit style pizza joint located off of Yonge Street just south of Bloor, or find them at their new Liberty Village location. The tiny pizzeria offers deep dish style pizza which you can customize to your preference, or choose from their menu of unique and drool worthy options. My personal joy is the half and half, so if you’re sharing with someone it’s easy to satisfy both palettes. This pizza is really buttery and crispy, with a soft middle and really delicious sauce and cheese.

Best Wood Oven Style Toronto Pizza

Okay, Pi Co. is a chain, which I normally don’t promote BUT it’s fantastic wood oven style and for under $20 you can customize your pie to exactly your preference. I know there are dozens of wood oven pizzerias in the city, which have received awards for their ingredients and style but, Pi Co. is very comparable without the need to dine in which racks up the bill.

Each order is prepared in front of you and baked in just a few minutes, it becomes addicting because of the simplicity and take out style which I don’t see from traditional pizzerias. It’s the Subway of pizza, because the toppings are laid out the same way. If you’re on the go or in a rush it’s the perfect option, definitely check it out during your lunch break or if you’re hopping around the city and need a pick me up without sitting down for service.

Makers Pizza

Makers Pizza is famous in its own right because, well, its owned by an influencer meaning it had an audience of fans from its inception. It’s a bit more pricey of an option but worth the try if you’ve heard the hype. The cheese is super flavourful and their homemade dipping sauces are a really nice addition for ponly a few extra dollars. It’s a bit greasy compared to other types of pizza, but if you’re looking for that American style hangover cure this is it.

Ambassadors Pizza

If you’re looking to get a good bang for your buck Ambassadors Pizza is the place. The daily deal is a slice of cheese or pepperoni and a beer for $10 and let me tell you, the slices are GENEROUS. It’s the best deal on pizza in the city and it’s a local joint so you can feel good about supporting them.

The cheese is more subtle than Makers but the size is much bigger and the pepperoni is shredded, an exclusive style to them. I love sitting on their patio in the summer for the chill vibes, and the cheque is always less than what I typically pay elsewhere. They do offer unique pizza toppings on full sized pies, so if you have a group not to worry- but the single slices are where its at.

Best Toronto Pizza Tray Style

The Slab Pizza is a hidden gem offering unlimited toppings on a really really good crust. Choose from their long list of toppings on the wall when you walk in and they will make it for you in 10-15 minutes. This place really is the best option for a party, gathering, or if you’re just really really hungry because the price to size ratio is a good value. They also offer a walk in special at a discount, and apart from the build your own option the menu offers pizza styles including buffalo chicken, extreme pepperoni, and five cheese.
