If you’re on the hunt for the perfect glow from head to toe, you’re a seasoned self tanner, or you’re dabbling in self tanner for the first time I’m here to show you a few good tanning lotion options as well as other formulas like mousse, and drops. I will link everything for you as well for easy access, so keep on reading!

What is Considered Good Tanning Lotion?

Good tanning lotion is one in which gives you natural looking colour, enhances your glow and most importantly makes you feel confident and beautiful. However, not all are created equal. Good tanning lotion will consist of:

  • A formula that doesn’t leave streaks
  • Isn’t strong smelling
  • Applies evenly
  • Has easy clean up
  • Provides a good amount of colour without being over the top
  • Works well in those stubborn areas like elbows
  • Is accessible at a fair price point

What is Good Tanning Lotion for Pale Skin?

I have pale skin so take that into consideration when reading this review. Depending on your natural skin colour and tone the products will give you a different result, that’s the beauty of it!

These products work well with pale skin, I do find self tanner difficult with pale skin because it’s often way too dark even at its lightest. I’m personally looking for a subtle glow to enhance my features, and add a bit of warmth to the skin during the summer months. I like the dewy finish self tan leaves behind and gives me an extra boost of confidence when wearing summer outfits.

Don’t forget that self tanner doesn’t prevent you from getting a sun burn, make sure to always wear SPF under your makeup every single day!!

In this post I’m reviewing two self tanning products, so if you’re looking for good tanning lotion or prefer a mousse or drops then keep on reading.

My Favourite Sunless Tanner

Now let’s get into it, my two favourite sunless tanning products for fair skin, in two different formulas to boot! One is a serum that can be applied by itself or mixed into your foundation or moisturizer and the other is a self tanning mousse for your body.

St. Tropez Self Tan Express Mousse

Starting with body St. Tropez Express Tan is one of their most popular formulas for a reason. It’s quick, easy to use and provides the right amount of colour with easy clean up. Plus it doesn’t smell too strong. I leave mine on for ____ and then shower leaving a lovely sun kissed glow. This is a great indoor tanning product because it’s so easy to use, I also purchased the accompanying tanning glove but that’s not totally necessary.

They do provide self tanning kits for the Express Tan so you can try a few products out at once, or you can purchase the St. Tropez Express Tan by itself if you prefer.

The formula is dispensed as a mousse and does turn into liquid quite quickly so keep that in mind. At first I was a bit surprised to see the green colour but I promise It doesn’t apply green. Remember to shake well before use, exfoliate an hour before and moisturize an hour before applying. If you apply self tanner to dry skin it will stick, streak and look blotchy. We want to avoid that.

I will link a few options below here depending on where you like to shop.

Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Facial Drops

This product is great because you can add it into your moisturizer or foundation and leave it for the day, wash your face at night and you have a lovely glow. The reason this works so well is because you blend in your foundation evenly all over your face, or apply your moisturizer evenly so the product is applied evenly. I find that by adding the drops into another product it disperses better and is less messy. Plus they’re incredibly easy to use. I love how the added colour looks with my simple summer makeup routine.

As you can see the product is clear and minimal. I use this strictly for my face but there is also a product for body as well, so if you like a less intimidating self tanning product go for this one.

There are three levels of tan depending on what you’re looking to achieve, I use the light shade which provides just the right amount of colour. I wouldn’t go to the next level. I will link all 3 levels below including different shopping options.

And that’s it! One thing to note is that fake tan does take a bit to get used to and you likely won’t get a perfect seamless application the first time around. It takes practice so don’t obsess over the tiny details. I like to apply self tan in the summer months mostly but have been known to dabble in a bit of glow in the winter when the mood strikes. Just check out St. Tropez and Isle of Paradise websites for exact application instructions and to answer any questions you might have.
