Can Face Makeup Act as a Sunscreen?

Some foundations and moisturizers have SPF in them already but it’s important to still use a sunscreen, facial sunscreens are formulated to provide more protection and I personally like using more sunscreen on my face than I would foundation. The amount of foundation I use wouldn’t provide much protection so I use this since it’s the best sunscreen for face under makeup.

It’s not cheap. In fact it’s actually quite expensive and when I first received the bottle I was shocked. You get the measurements on the website, but it’s not the same as holding it in your hand. I was a little disappointed.

However, after using it once I realized why the bottle is so small. A PEA SIZED amount, and no more, covers your entire face. Bizarre, and a little different than what I’m used to- but true.

Because the formula is gel, it’s incredibly spreadable and applies evenly across the skin, think a thick primer and you basically have it. I also LOVE that it’s clear, there’s zero white cast and it’s essentially invisible, such a great concept!

This also means it works as a fantastic base for your makeup and the best sunscreen for face under makeup. I just replaced my first bottle this week so it’s lasted a year, I chalk it up to the product being condensed and dense so a little bit goes a long way.

Can you get a cheaper product? Yes, but how long will it last? This also doesn’t clog my pores or cause breakouts, which I often get with my sensitive skin.

I prefer SPF products that are formulated specifically for the skin on your face because it’s different, and has unique needs so paying a bit more will be necessary.

Finally, at the beginning of the summer I claimed Paulas Choice was the best, but Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen takes the cake for all of the reasons mentioned above. I will never go back to anything other than a clear face sunscreen again.
