To make things easier we’ll be referring a lot to this grey cardigan outfit page on H&M.com but keep scrolling to see individual picks and styling tips.

Grey Cardigan Top Picks

Long grey cardigan

For extra warmth long cardigans are ideal to keep the bottom half of your body warm and give you more of a boho look. This long grey cardigan is part of H&M’s conscious line and is super casual. With a dropped shoulder, oversized fit and no buttons it’s basically a big blanket that would be so perfect on its own or layered underneath a jacket.

Knit grey cardigan

Knit cardigans are perfect is you want to stay really warm and add a bit of texture to your outfit. This knit grey cardigan with buttons is so stunning, it’s also part of their conscious line and is made from recycled polyester and wool.

If you like the style of Sezane sweaters you’ll LOVE this knit one with pearl buttons down the front. It screams Parisian beauty vibes.

Cropped grey cardigan

If you’re looking for something more casual and trendy a cropped grey cardigan like this soft knit V-neck with buttons is SO cute and stylish. It also looks amazing with denim.

What Do You Wear With a Grey Cardigan?

Styling tips for a dark grey and light grey cardigan

  1. Add texture by choosing a different fabric that what the cardigan is made of.
  2. All black is a classic and edgy look that you’ll feel great in.
  3. Play with length, wear a long cardigan with shorts and a top tucked in to add different lengths to your layers, or a pair of leather leggings and a long top for a streamlined look.
  4. If the cardigan is oversized go with a fitted top and pants to add shape.
  5. Add accessories like a scarf to complete the look if you’re not wearing a jacket.

What Colour To Wear With a Grey Cardigan?

Grey is a neutral colour that can be paired with any other colour, so don’t worry about colour when styling a grey cardigan outfit, rather focus on fit and fabric.

Use these colours as inspiration and a guide when dressing. If you look at each colour in the circles they all match well with either light grey or dark grey.

Style with a Scarf For a Cozy Grey Cardigan Outfit

This cozy grey cardigan outfit is how I would style the chunky piece from H&M. I added a black scarf to complete the look, since the grey cardigan is open at the front I want to add something to make it look styled.

I also tucked in a white tee and went with black pants and boots to elongate the grey cardigan outfit, I felt like this worked well since the cardigan is so chunky and long.

This one is actually from the mens department, and is also a few years old so I will link a similar one below.

How to Style a Grey Cardigan

Pair this oversized grey cardigan with a slimmer fitting bottom for a more streamlined look, otherwise the whole outfit ends up looking too big.

You can also wear it as an oversized sweater jacket and ditch the jacket altogether, if you do pair it with a jacket be careful not to go for one that’s already oversized.

You can also opt for dressy leggings which would allow you to wear this look to work, while still being comfy.

I wrote a comprehensive blog post on how to get away with wearing leggings to work for you to get some tips and tricks from.

What Do Cardigans Look Good With?

Cardigans aren’t exactly the same as a sweater when it comes to styling, but they look good with many of the items you already have in your wardrobe, such as:

  • Denim pants and shorts
  • Tank tops
  • Camis
  • Leggings
  • Blouses
  • Dresses (cropped cardigans)
  • Jumpsuits

All of these items are in your wardrobe already and are the base for your capsule wardrobe. Winter capsule wardrobes are tricky because the layering means more items. So if you need a little guidance I will link my winter capsule wardrobe post for you to refer to.
