A Facial Oils Review Everything You Need to Know

Share if you like this post!

In todays post I’m giving you a detailed facial oils review by going over their key benefits, how to incorporate them into your skincare routine, where you can buy them, and brands I’ve tried and love.

I’ve basically done the work for you, you’re welcome!

Lets go back a bit, to the place where it all started.

Back in the fall I started using facial oils as a replacement for my moisturizer. It started with a solid oil by 8 Faces Beauty (which also made the list of my March favourites) the product melts in your fingers into an oil and is the most luxurious moisturizer I’ve tried to date.

This pleasant experience got me hooked on oils as I saw a dramatic positive change in my skin. It was even, I had less breakouts (still some hormonal blemishes) and it felt balanced.

I also realized how fantastic the actual formula felt. Which is a huge deal for a lot of people.

Going to bed at night feeling that gradual product dissolving into your skin gives the feeling of continuous benefits, like its actively working while you sleep. I never got that from another product. Usually one its sunk into the skin that’s it!

After I finished most of the bottle i integrated other products into the mix. The price tag is a bit hefty, so I kept it as a specialty product and used other things in-between. Nothing felt as good.

So I went back to oils.

I met the two girls of Holistick at a handmade market and was immediately attracted to their products, they also had a selfie wall set up so that was worth checking out too.

Their approach is simple, holistic products made from natural ingredients derived from Bali. I loved their packaging and the oils smelled incredible.

But more importantly, they are reasonably priced locally made in Canada and female owned. i bought the Bulan facial oil and headed home.

It smells like subtle sweet pine and the formula is light but over the top moisturizing ( in such a good way). After a few months I finished the bottle and went back to a moisturizer.

It wasn’t the same.

Key Benefits of Facial Oils I Was Missing

  • Subtle soak into the skin
  • Warm feeling the more you rub it onto your skin
  • Acts as a natural primer so you don’t actually have to use a primer
  • Helped shrink enlarged pores on my nose
  • Calmed down redness
  • Banished blemishes
  • The smell is incredible
  • The feeling of being at a spa, they truly provide a luxurious pampering feeling

How to Use Oils in Your Everyday Skincare Routine

Rule of thumb when it comes to skincare and makeup application is to start with lighter products first. So start with your oils first, wait for them to sink into your skin and begin applying your makeup.

It really is only one step and you can actually eliminate your moisturizer and primer so really, its not an added step at all. You’re replacing one step with an oil.

Here is a video of how I apply the Holistick facial oils onto my skin, in specific motions on specific points of my face for an all around application.

This is how I incorporate oils into my every day skincare routine:

VIDEO: One Minute Holistick Tutorial

In the video I have nothing on my face except sunscreen which I applied an hour earlier and before ANY makeup.

The ONLY makeup I am wearing is eye makeup (mascara, eyebrow gel) that is IT.

I add the facial oils onto the skin, let them sink in, and then apply bronzer afterwards. It’s so simple and effective.

Where to Buy Facial Oils

  1. Health store
  2. well.ca
  3. Shoppers Drug Mart
  4. Sephora
  5. Ulta
  6. Online, any beauty brand that has a website will sell their products online, just search for facial oils and narrow them down that way according to price or ingredient list.

Facial Oils From Brands I’ve Tried and Love

There are so many others and I will continue to update this facial oils review post when I try new ones that I love and feel you will love as well.

Who Can Use Facial Oils

Note that all skin types have a facial oil formulated for their specific needs.

For oily or acne prone skin, make sure the oil has ingredients such as: jojoba, tea tree, aloe vera, or squalene. These ingredients skill bacteria that causes oil, so they can actually help prevent your skin from getting oily.

For dry skin, make sure the ingredient list has coconut, rosehip, olive, sunflower, argan, or maraca in it. These ingredients help plump the skin and replenish moisture loss.

For sensitive skin, look for ingredients that are soothing like lavender and chamomile. These ingredients work toward calming skin irritants. If you have a high level of sensitivity, apply a small amount of oil as a test first before applying to your whole face. You don’t want to irritate your entire face!
