In today’s post I’m reviewing the Mount Lai Jade Gua Sha tool. If you’re interested in the benefits of using a Gua Sha or want to just know more than keep on reading, as I give a break down of everything you need to know.

What is a Gua Sha?

A Gua Sha is a facial tool either made from jade or quartz that promotes the lifting and smoothing of the skin, through massaging techniques and specific pressure application, leaving the face lifted and radiant after use.

Besides improving overall health and radiance of the skin, the practice of Gua Sha has a multitude of benefits. It relieves facial and jaw tension, promotes a brighter complexion, and visibly lifts and contours the face.

Xiyuan jade is a stone with balancing properties and retains its coolness for long periods of time, while rose quartz is a crystal with calming properties and aids in meditation, reflection, and self-love.

The shape of the lifting facial tool is designed to allow for comfortable grip during use.

How to Use a Gua Sha

A lot of people use the Gua Sha in different ways, and you can find videos and diagrams across the internet showing you. There is a proper and proven way of using the tool for the highest level of effectiveness so I will show a diagram below:

You can use any oil or serum depending on your skin type, and what brand or product you like using. As long as your face isn’t bare both will work. I use a botanical facial oil by Holistick and switch between Matahari and Bulan.

I posted a review on both with a video linked below:

In terms of a Jade roller vs Gua Sha, the Gua Sha provides more of a contoured and lifted look, while the roller helps decrease inflammation. It’s up to you to decide what results you’re looking for, so you can choose the correct tool for your needs.

A Quick and Earnest Review

I want to start by saying I don’t use my Gua Sha every single day, but I do use it 3-4 times a week. The reason for this is because I usually either forget, or I put on makeup shortly after waking up thereby eliminating the ability to use the tool.

Before and After

These were taken in the morning not too long after waking up with zero makeup on and only a bit of facial oil. As you can see my face is very puffy in the before image, the after is less puffy but it’s not completely gone. I do find my neck and jawline slims out a bit though.

Again, the difference is incredibly minimal as I stated before, but the point is I feel much less congested and more awake after using the Gua Sha.

However, when I do use it I absolutely love the ritual, and time spent on a little self care- it is quite relaxing. I typically complete the whole ritual while drinking my morning coffee, with a light layer of facial oil on the skin. Typically experts say to use a serum I just don’t have one yet, and the facial oil feels and looks good.

The jade is a naturally cool stone so I don’t put it in the fridge either, I just wipe it down and begin on clean skin.

Results

The change in my skin is very minimal, and I’ve heard you can hit a peak of effectiveness which I haven’t yet, but my skin feels less puffy and firmer after each use. My expectation is not to look like a chiselled model afterwards, but to see a slight difference in elasticity and shape. Mainly around my chin, jawline and down towards the neck which are my areas of most concern and the reason why I bought the tool in the first place.

I noticed after using the tool a few times exactly where the stress is being held in my face, mainly around my eyes and jaw and I felt more awake immediately after.

Should You Add a Gua Sha Into Your Routine?

Would I recommend adding a Gua Sha into your routine? Yes! Absolutely, just remember to be patient, consistent, and take your time with it. Like anything, you won’t physically see results right away but you’ll feel them.
