How to Find Quality Clothing

When looking for quality clothing check what fabric the garment is made from, you can easily do this on the brands website in the product description or in store by checking the label. This information is readily available for anyone so that can be your first clue. The thing with this is you have to learn what fabrics are good quality and which aren’t, that isn’t difficult to do either with a quick Google search. Luckily for you I’ve outlined fabric detail in this post.

Another tip for how to find quality clothing is to check the price tag, if a garment is cheap or the brand is known to be cheap the quality of the clothing is, you guessed it-cheap. You can also look for vintage clothing like blazers or other bigger items, most vintage or second hand stores have great quality pieces.

Where to Buy Quality Clothing

Here are a list of brands that offer quality clothing at an affordable price:

  • Encircled
  • Frank and Oak
  • Everlane
  • Various brands at Anthropologie
  • Eileen Fisher
  • Jenni Kayne
  • Kotn
  • Organic basics
  • ABLE
  • Anine Bing

Pick a few brands and rotate between them, you don’t have to shop everywhere. Also check to see where it’s made, smaller more ethical factories create better quality clothing whereas mass produced factories are mainly focused on quantity.

What Are Quality Clothing Materials

Quality clothing materials are typically fibres that are woven closer together and tighter and are properly dyed. more expensive materials are not necessarily better quality, so when you’re buying an expensive piece if possible make sure to touch the material so you get an idea of what the quality is like. Most of the time when looking, touching and trying on a garment you can get a good idea of the quality.

Natural materials like cashmere, wool, cotton, and silk tend to be better quality, and less mass produced. Mass produced clothing air on the side of less quality, it’s like anything in life too much of something lessens the quality of it.

Synthetic materials like polyester and rayon are typically poor quality and don’t stand the test of time. A good strategy to check material quality is to check the structure of the fabric, pull it a little and see how much stretch it has, check the stitching and turn it inside out to check the structure of the inside. These tips take only a few seconds but give away a lot of information.

What Does Quality Clothing Mean

Clothing that not only looks and feels good on you but lasts for your everyday life. At a larger, deeper scale with the change in the global fashion industry quality clothing continues to decrease as demand increases this means mass produced fashion mirrors a fast-fashion low quality narrative.

To consumers quality has meant less. Less consumption, less quantity, less running after the next trend. Quality fashion can be a rebel to the fast fashion space, think capsule wardrobes filled with high quality garments meant to be worn over and over again.

You made a great point about checking the product description for the type of fabric a piece of clothing is made from to determine if it’s of quality. My sister wants to buy more clothing to add to her fall wardrobe. I think it would also be smart for her to read reviews of potential boutiques overall to make sure they provide quality clothes.

Thanks for your feedback Charlotte, yes that’s a good idea when looking for a retailer to shop. Google reviews are always a good place to start. I would say 90% of the time they’re authentic. Good luck to her!
