If you have sensitive skin sometimes the thought of a nighttime or morning sensitive skin care routine is daunting.
What products should I choose?
How to choose brands that are going to be safe?
What if I have a reaction or my skin dries up?
All common questions, and although I’m not an expert, I do have sensitive skin that does not like harsh ingredient lists, and I have tested a lot of different products.

Sensitive Skin: A Quick Guide to Buying Products
When buying how do you narrow down the right products and brands when there are so many to choose from?
1. First off, don’t look at everything as a whole. Decide first, what categories you’re looking for:
- Moisturizers
- Cleansers
- Toners
- Exfoliators
- Oils
- Masks
- Retinols
You get the point.
2. Then once you figure out what categories you’re looking for, start narrowing down brands.
The thing is, there are a lot of brands, and directories like Sephora make it daunting as heck. Especially with the ‘recommended for you’ section, who knows what to buy when everything is recommended just for you? Oh please.

That’s why you start with one category, say cleansers, and then search for brands that sell cleansers meant for sensitive skin. This will narrow down the list (especially if you choose cruelty free). Do one more filter and search for specific price points, those price points are up to you.
This will narrow down the list once again, and you’ll be left with a manageable amount of products to choose from.
Since going cruelty free my options have diminished, and I’m SO okay with that (but that topic is another blog post entirely). This is the time when you can also refer to the ‘customer reviews’ section, they never lie.

Don’t try and buy all product categories at once (unless you feel really ambitious) rotate the above two steps until you have one skincare product from each category in your sensitive skincare routine.
If you are looking for cruelty free beauty brands, ill link my Pinterest beauty board below:
The benefit of this is taking it slow. Make sure you’re choosing good quality products and do your research as you go, bulk shopping is not all that beneficial when it comes to beauty.
As each sensitive skincare product gets used up take note of what you liked, and didn’t like for next time. I have a bit of a structured rotation when it comes to my sensitive skin and the products I rotate through.
It’s like a schedule for your skincare shopping.

5 Cruelty Free Products Meant for the Best Skin care Routine
With all that said, here are 5 cruelty free products meant for sensitive skin I’ve recently tried in my sensitive skin care routine, and love:
This is the holy grail of moisturizers. I could write a whole blog post on this product but just know that the texture is soothing and nourishing, it warms up on your skin as you massage it in and is the most gentle product I’ve used.
The smell provides a hint of tangerine for a fresh juicy aroma and the jar lasts forever. Use a pea sized amount, that’s all it takes and I promise you’ll be hooked.
*This product is pricey, but because the formula is so dense it can last you up to 8 months and thats an incredible ROI in my opinion. There’s also a tester size you can buy to try prior to committing to the full jar.
3. Clove and Hallow Everything Oil
This is the second facial oil i’ve tried and i’ll never go back to not having one in my routine.
The nice thing about this particular one is that you can add a few drops into your moisturizer, foundation, or SPF for added nutrients or use it alone.
It’s very hydrating, not sticky, isn’t too thick, smells fantastic, and doesn’t clog pores. It also makes a really nice primer for makeup.
Note that if you have oily skin facial oils won’t add to that, with the right one they help balance your natural PH levels.
This is another product I wasn’t sold on right away, but oh my I want to re-buy. My sensitive skin loved this.
It doesn’t smell the best but it makes your skin so satisfyingly clean, and you get used to the smell. Its quite a natural earthy aroma so if you hate that then I would advise against this.
The formula is soapy which was strange at first, but I became addicted to the thin sheer suds that make you feel as if you’re at a spa.
Hands down the best SPF I have tried. Paulas Choice is underrated and over delivers. The price point is great too.
It’s really soothing on sensitive skin, soaks in within 10 seconds for quick makeup application, and doesn’t interfere with your foundation at all.
If you need an SPF, give this a try.
*Since using this product I have gotten 3 people hooked, all with sensitive skin.
This is the OG of lip balm for a reason. The tin it comes in reminds me of Anthropologies whimsical aesthetic which means I love keeping it at my bedside table.
The eucalyptus makes it soothing and refreshing, definitely a great wellness moment before bed or when you wake up.
