When it comes to summer skin, this year I’m going for a less is more approach. Here’s why.
Summer skin is like summer fashion, it requires less physical coverage but more strategy. Think less foundation more SPF. Our beauty routines shift to accommodate a season of less, while we often panic if what we’re doing is enough- cue new freckles and panic.
Minimalist skincare is a topic that’s been trending recently, coined by dermatologists skinimalism is a less is more approach of stripping back your beauty routine for a minimalist one- and like most less is more concepts I was immediately intrigued. Less products means more money in my pocket, less fuss, and more time to do other things. I’m so here for that.
The fact is, whenever summer rolls around I naturally strip away several skincare products that don’t necessarily have a place during the warmer months. This year I’m aiming for breathe-able, natural bright skin without the melting of heavy products and splotches on high points like the top of ones forehead or the collar of your crisp white linen shirt.
Less time doing my beauty routine, more time enjoying summer life, embracing natural looking skin.
My Simple Summer Skin Routine
Here’s what I’m using for an easy breezy summer skin routine this year. Cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. I normally add in a serum once a week for added benefits like helping balance my skin, everyone has different concerns and needs this is just what I do and it works for me.
Summer Skin: Cleanser
For summer skin i’ll be using Caudalie’s Vinoclean Gentle Cleansing Almond Milk this cleanser is so gentle and smells so incredible I enjoy using it more than any other product in my routine. Cleansers have been noted as a bit pointless in your skincare routine since you wash it all off, but a gentle formula that’s nourishing and enjoyable to use adds to your self care routine and that’s also super important.
Summer Skin: Moisturizer
For daytime I use IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Hydrating Moisturizer and for nighttime I use IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Beauty Sleep. You can read all about the pros and cons with an honest review of why these all in one products save you so much money and time it’s ridiculous. I currently have these on re-order from Sephora because they’re so good, but they also last a really long time.

Finally: SPF
There is no better SPF on the market, if there is I have yet to discover it. I love that Supergoop’s Unseen Unscreen is also a primer eliminating the need for one and its clear formula is like it’s not even there. I have a full review of this sunscreen with a demonstration of it being used if you’re interested or on the fence.

Experts say it’s better for the environment and your skin to use less products with more ingredient impact. To do this I’ve invested a few more resources into what I use, my daytime and nighttime moisturizer also includes hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that helps to exfoliate the skin as well as antioxidants, and anti-aging benefits. These two products are both a bit more in price, but they each allow me to ditch other products since they’re formulated to be all-in-one moisturizers.
I’ve saved a ton of time each morning and night by simplifying my routine and my bathroom has much less clutter.
Leave me a comment and let me know if you’re interested in adopting a minimalist skincare routine this summer, or beyond!
